The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
