A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 and a good many of later times. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
