By the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 surely (Hell) is one of the greatest Signs, 35 a warning to mortal man 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 except the people of the right hand 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
