Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 In gardens and springs. 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
