He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And hath fear, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
