And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 If ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers. 34 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, far-fetched indeed is what you are promised! 36 "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! 37 He is only a man who has invented a lie about God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 The Messenger prayed, "Lord, help me; they have called me a liar". 39 Said Allah, “They will soon wake up at morn, regretting.” 40 So the (Awful) Cry overtook them rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far removal for wrongdoing folk! 41 Then after them, We created other generations. 42 No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter]. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Yet whenever its Messenger came to a nation they belied him, so We made them follow others, and We made them but as tales, so begone the nation who did not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear authority 45 to the Pharaoh and his nobles. But they behaved proudly and thought themselves superior people. 46 They therefore said, “Shall we believe in two humans like ourselves, whereas their nation is servile to us?” 47 They called them liars and consequently were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book that people might be guided by it. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a portent, and We gave them refuge on a height, a place of flocks and watersprings. 50
