The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Terror descends 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On studded thrones. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And shade extended 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
