The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 stay away from sins 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 it scorches the skin; 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
