Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
