The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
