The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them. 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? 22
