The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 you strive in various ways. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 They do not expect any reward 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
