The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
