The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 and gently take it away; 2 And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy), 3 By the angels hastening, 4 And those who arrange [each] matter, 5 On the day when the trembling one will tremble. (The disbelievers will certainly taste the punishment.) 6 There will follow it the subsequent [one]. 7 Hearts, that Day, will tremble, 8 [and] their eyes downcast... 9 They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]? 10 even after we are fragmented bones' 11 They say: “That will then be a return with a great loss!” 12 [But,] then, that [Last Hour] will be [upon them of a sudden, as if it were] but a single accusing cry 13 So they will immediately be in an open plain. 14 Hast thou received the story of Moses? 15 Lo! His Sustainer called out to him in the twice-hallowed valley: 16 That “Go to Firaun – he has rebelled.” 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 Then I will guide you to your Lord that you may come to fear Him.'" 19 Then Moses (went to Pharaoh and) showed him the Great Sign; 20 Yet he belied and disobeyed. 21 Then turned he away in haste, 22 Then he gathered (men) and called out. 23 Saying: "I am alone your lord, the highest of them all." 24 And thereupon God took him to task, [and made him] a warning example in the life to come as well as in this world. 25 In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. 26
