He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you attend; 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
