The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
