And [remember] when you, [O Muhammad], left your family in the morning to post the believers at their stations for the battle [of Uhud] - and Allah is Hearing and Knowing - 121 Remember two of your parties Meditated cowardice; but Allah was their protector, and in Allah should the faithful (Ever) put their trust. 122 for, indeed, God did succour you at Badr, when you were utterly weak. Remain, then, conscious of God, so that you might have cause to be grateful. 123 And recall when you said to the believers: 'Will it not suffice you that your Lord will aid you by sending down three thousand angels? 124 Rather, if you have patience and are cautious, and they suddenly come against you, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand marked angels' 125 Allah has reminded you of this only as a glad tiding to you and so as to let your hearts be at rest. Help can only come from Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. 126 and so that He might cut off a portion of those who are bent on denying the truth or abase them so that they might be turned back frustrated. 127 Not with thee is aught of the affair: He shall either relent toward them or torment them, for verily they are wrong-doers. 128 To Allah belongeth all that is in the heavens and on earth. He forgiveth whom He pleaseth and punisheth whom He pleaseth; but Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. 129
