Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 [Zechariah] said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
