The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 a host of the ancients 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
