The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 But We see it very near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Are free of blame, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
