The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
