The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
