The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
