And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
