The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
