The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
