The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 stay away from sins 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
