The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
