The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ They ask you about the spoils of war. Say, "They belong to God and His Messenger. So fear God, and set things right among yourselves, and obey God and His Messenger, if you are true believers: 1 true believers are those whose hearts tremble with awe at the mention of God, and whose faith grows stronger as they listen to His revelations. They are those who put their trust in their Lord, 2 who establish Prayer and spend out of what We have provided them. 3 These are the believers in truth; they shall have from their Lord exalted grades and forgiveness and an honorable sustenance. 4 It is like when your Lord caused you to leave your home with the truth, though some of the believers disliked it. 5 Arguing with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death while they were looking on. 6 [Remember, O believers], when Allah promised you one of the two groups - that it would be yours - and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allah intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers 7 That He might cause the Truth to triumph and bring vanity to naught, however much the guilty might oppose; 8 When you were calling upon your Lord for succour, and He answered you, 'I shall reinforce you with a thousand angels riding behind you.' 9 He gave you the good news only to reassure your hearts, for victory comes from God alone, and certainly God is all-mighty and all-wise. 10
