The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Terror descends 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and waters gushing, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
