Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Join My servants. 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
