Al-Hijjr 5 of 6
AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt. 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. (* To the house of Prophet Lut.) 67 Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not: 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They replied: "Did we not forbid you again and again to extend hospitality to all and sundry?" 70 He said: These are my daughters, if you will do (aught). 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 Thus did We turn it upside down, and rained down upon them stones of what had been decreed. 74 Surely in this are signs for those who examine. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 And the people of Aykah were also wrong-doers. 78 So we took vengeance on them; and lo! they both are on a high-road plain to see. 79

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
