The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 Pollution shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
