[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
