The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM MIM. 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice 4 With the help of Allah, He helps whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 They know but the outer (things) in the life of this world: but of the End of things they are heedless. 7 Do they not reflect within themselves: Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them two but with truth, and (for) an appointed term? And most surely most of the people are deniers of the meeting of their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they belied the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, Messengers, etc.) of Allah and made mock of them. 10
