The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
