The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
