They will ask you about ThulKarnain (the pious and chosen). Say: 'I will recite to you something of his story. 83 Surely We established him in the land and granted him means of access to every thing. 84 and he followed a way 85 until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of murky water and near it he found some people. We said, "Dhu'l-Qarnayn! You can either punish them or else you can treat them with gentleness." 86 He replied: 'The evildoer we shall punish. Then he shall return to his Lord and He will punish him with a stern punishment. 87 As for those who believe and do good, they will receive virtuous rewards and We will tell them to do only what they can. 88 He then followed (another) road 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield. 90 thus [We had made them, and thus he left them; and We did encompass with Our knowledge all that he had in mind 91 Then followed he (another) way, 92 [And he marched on] till, when he reached [a place] between the two mountain-barriers, he found beneath them a people who could scarcely understand a word [of his language]. 93 They said: 'O Dhu'l-Qarnain, Gog and Magog are oppressing the land. May we pay you some tribute so that you could build a rampart between us and them?" 94 He said: "(The power) in which my Lord has established me is better (than tribute): Help me therefore with strength (and labour): I will erect a strong barrier between you and them: 95 Give me pieces of iron - till, when he had levelled up (the gap) between the cliffs, he said: Blow! - till, when he had made it a fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour thereon. 96 So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration. 97 and he said, "This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will level it to dust. My Lord's promise is ever true!" 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 On that Day We shall present Gehenna (Hell) to the unbelievers, 100 who have turned a blind eye to My reminder and a deaf ear to My warning. 101
