So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us). 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 and the fish swallowed him while he was blaming himself. 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ But We cast him, upon the shore, and he was ill, 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 God hath begotten. Verily they are the liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 “So do you not ponder?” 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 Exalted is Allah above what they describe, 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 for, verily, neither you [blasphemers] nor the objects of your worship 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 [All forces of nature praise God and say:] "Among us, too, there is none but has a place assigned to it [by Him]; 164 we are those who stand ranged in ranks. 165 we are they that give glory. 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 "If we had had with us a Book like that of the people of old, 168 We would certainly have been the servants of Allah-- the purified ones. 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 We have already given Our promise to Our Messengers 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 and that, verily, Our hosts - they indeed - would [in the end] be victorious! 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 When it descends upon their courtyards, evil will be the morning of those forewarned. 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
