In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
