He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 So you are after him! 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And hath fear, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
