The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
