The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
