He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
