Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
