He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you give attention. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
