Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 for the suffering [predicted by Salih,] befell them [then and there]. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
