Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Reality! 1 What is the Reality? 2 And what do you know what that indubitable event is? 3 (The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come. 4 Now as for the Thamud - they were destroyed by a violent upheaval [of the earth]; 5 And as for 'Aad they were destroyed by a wind, furious, roaring. 6 Which Allah imposed on them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that you could see men lying overthrown (destroyed), as if they were hollow trunks of date-palms! 7 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? 8 Pharoah and those before him and the inhabitants of the overthrown cities persistently committed grave sins. 9 They disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord and He seized them with torment which increased with time. 10 Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship 11 as a lesson for you, but only attentive ears will retain it. 12 When a single blow is blown on the Horn, 13 And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,- 14 So that is the day when the forthcoming event will occur. 15 The sky will cleave asunder on that day and fall to pieces. 16 And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them. 17 That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed. 18 So whoever is given his book in his right hand – he will say, “Take, read my account!” 19 Surely I knew that I shall meet my account. 20 And he will be in a life of Bliss, 21 In a high garden 22 the clusters of whose fruit will be hanging low to be within reach (of the inmates of Paradise). 23 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' 24 But as for him who will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "I wish that I had not been given my Record! 25 and had not known my account. 26 I wish my death had been the decisive one. 27 My wealth has not helped me a thing 28 and my authority has vanished.” 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 and then let him enter Hell. 31 And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits. 32 they did not believe in the great God, 33 “And did not urge to feed the needy.” 34 so today he has no friend here, 35 Nor food other than suppuration (filth) 36 "Which none do eat but those in sin." 37
