He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attend to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And hath fear, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
