The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
